Outside
In some ways,
Alaska tries to distance itself from the rest of the world. One example of this is that the rest of the world is referred to as “Outside.” Yep, with a capital O. And the people are referred to as “Outsiders.” Even the newspapers abide by this rule in print. Obits of people who have an
Alaska tie are under the heading “Outside.” It just reinforces the idea that
Alaska is separate, or as best said by my favorite T-shirt, “The Great Nation of Alaska.”
Alaska would actually do pretty well as its own country since the government tends to use common sense and plan a lot for the future. But, that’s for another day …
